Cyprus is straightforward to stay connected on — a small, densely covered island where you will struggle to find a dead zone in the south. There is one thing about it that genuinely matters and that no price comparison mentions: the island is divided, and the division is a network boundary as well as a political one.
The south is covered; the north is a different network area
The Republic of Cyprus — Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos, Nicosia south of the Green Line, Ayia Napa and the Troodos foothills — has comprehensive coverage. The two networks we roam onto cover it between them with little left out, and even the mountain roads up to Troodos hold a signal for most of their length.
Northern Cyprus operates its own mobile networks and is treated as a separate network area. A Cyprus plan is a plan for the Republic. If you cross at a checkpoint into the north — which visitors regularly do, for Famagusta or Kyrenia — your phone will look for a network and find one that your plan does not include. Depending on your settings it will either refuse to connect or connect at roaming rates outside your plan.
This is not a limitation of travel eSIMs specifically. It is how the island's mobile infrastructure is arranged, and a SIM bought in Limassol behaves the same way.

Live prices in GBP, updated from our network partners. 6 plans currently available for Cyprus. Validity counts from the moment the eSIM first connects to a network in Cyprus, not from when you buy — so installing days before you fly costs you nothing.
£1.49 is the entry price rather than the best value. At £1.49 per gigabyte it is the most expensive data on the list; the 20 GB plan at £13.99 is £0.70 per gigabyte. If there is any realistic chance you will use more than 1 GB, the larger plan costs less than buying the small one twice.
Roaming, and whether you need this at all
The Republic of Cyprus is in the EU, so EU and EEA SIMs roam at home rates. This does not extend across the Green Line either — northern Cyprus is outside the EU roaming regime regardless of which EU SIM you hold.
If you are crossing to the north
Turn mobile data off before you cross, do your navigation on an offline map, and turn it back on when you return. That avoids both the surprise charge and the slow drain of a phone hunting for a network it cannot use.
The crossings themselves are routine for visitors and the practical advice is simply to treat the north as a separate country for data purposes, because for your phone it is one.
The networks you actually connect to
In Cyprus our plans roam onto Vodafone (5G), Epic (5G). That is worth stating plainly because it is the thing that determines your experience: a travel eSIM does not have its own masts, so your signal is whatever those operators have built, and 5G is available where they have deployed it and your handset supports it.
It also means no provider can sell you better coverage in Cyprus than the local networks have. Where there is a gap, it is a gap for everyone — local customers included.
Before you buy
Check the handset takes an eSIM and is not carrier-locked. Dial *#06# and look for an EID alongside the IMEI — no EID means no eSIM hardware whatever the model name suggests, and a locked phone will install the profile and then refuse to register. The device compatibility guide lists what works.
Then install before you fly, while you still have reliable Wi-Fi. Setup by brand: iPhone or Android. If it will not connect after you land, this works through the causes in order.
