Cheapest eSIM for Norway: fjords, tunnels and the drive between them
Short answer: The cheapest eSIM for Norway is £1.49 for 1 GB over 7 days. 6 plans run up to 20 GB at £11.99, and the best value per gigabyte is £0.60. All of them roam onto Telia and Telenor.

Norway has better coverage than its geography has any right to allow — the networks have done remarkable work along a coastline of fjords and mountains. But the country is long, the terrain is vertical, and the gaps that remain are in exactly the places a visitor drives through.
Coastal and urban strong, the drives in between less so
Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim, Stavanger and Tromsø are well covered. The coastal route and the Hurtigruten ports hold signal for most of their length, and the main E-roads are reasonable.
The gaps are in the fjord country and on the mountain plateaus. Driving between fjords means climbing out of one valley and down into the next, and the high stretches in between — the Hardangervidda, the roads over to Geiranger and Lysefjord — can be signal-free for long periods. Norway also has an extraordinary number of road tunnels, some of them many kilometres long, and most are dead inside.
The far north beyond Tromsø, and the interior of Finnmark, are sparse. If your plan involves northern lights chasing off the main roads in winter, that is precisely the combination of remote, dark and cold where you should not be depending on a live connection.

Live prices in GBP, updated from our network partners. 6 plans currently available for Norway. Validity counts from the moment the eSIM first connects to a network in Norway, not from when you buy — so installing days before you fly costs you nothing.
£1.49 is the entry price rather than the best value. At £1.49 per gigabyte it is the most expensive data on the list; the 20 GB plan at £11.99 is £0.60 per gigabyte. If there is any realistic chance you will use more than 1 GB, the larger plan costs less than buying the small one twice.
Roaming, and whether you need this at all
Norway is not in the EU but it is in the EEA, so EU and EEA SIMs do get roam-like-at-home here — the same as Iceland, and the opposite of Switzerland. UK, US, Canadian and Australian SIMs get nothing of the sort, and Norway is an expensive country to roam in on a standard tariff.
Ferries, tunnels and the weather
Norwegian road trips involve car ferries as a routine part of the route rather than an occasion, and the crossings are mostly short enough that signal loss is brief. The tunnels are the more constant interruption, and navigation apps handle them badly — a downloaded offline map is what keeps the route on screen when you emerge.
Mountain passes close in winter and the official road information is online and updated constantly. As in Iceland, the rule is to check when you have signal and a decision ahead of you, not when you reach the closure.
The networks you actually connect to
In Norway our plans roam onto Telia (5G), Telenor (5G). That is worth stating plainly because it is the thing that determines your experience: a travel eSIM does not have its own masts, so your signal is whatever those operators have built, and 5G is available where they have deployed it and your handset supports it.
It also means no provider can sell you better coverage in Norway than the local networks have. Where there is a gap, it is a gap for everyone — local customers included.
Before you buy
Check the handset takes an eSIM and is not carrier-locked. Dial *#06# and look for an EID alongside the IMEI — no EID means no eSIM hardware whatever the model name suggests, and a locked phone will install the profile and then refuse to register. The device compatibility guide lists what works.
Then install before you fly, while you still have reliable Wi-Fi. Setup by brand: iPhone or Android. If it will not connect after you land, this works through the causes in order.
