Sweden is one of the countries where a non-working phone is genuinely inconvenient rather than merely annoying, because a great deal of ordinary transacting here happens through a screen. Coverage in the populated south is excellent. The far north is a different country entirely.
The south is covered; Norrland is not
Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö and the whole populated south are thoroughly covered, including the metro and the main rail corridors. The archipelago around Stockholm has good coverage on the larger islands and the ferry routes.
Norrland — the northern two-thirds of the country by area and a small fraction of it by population — is sparse. Coverage follows the towns and the E4 up the coast. Inland Lapland, the fells, the Kungsleden trail and the areas around Abisko and Kiruna have real gaps, and in winter those gaps coincide with extreme cold and very little daylight.
If you are going north for the northern lights or to hike, plan on offline maps and treat live navigation as a bonus rather than the method.

Live prices in GBP, updated from our network partners. 6 plans currently available for Sweden. Validity counts from the moment the eSIM first connects to a network in Sweden, not from when you buy — so installing days before you fly costs you nothing.
£1.49 is the entry price rather than the best value. At £1.49 per gigabyte it is the most expensive data on the list; the 20 GB plan at £11.99 is £0.60 per gigabyte. If there is any realistic chance you will use more than 1 GB, the larger plan costs less than buying the small one twice.
Roaming, and whether you need this at all
Sweden is in the EU, so EU and EEA SIMs roam at home rates. Sweden uses the krona rather than the euro. For visitors from outside the EEA, Sweden is an expensive country to roam in on a standard tariff and an inexpensive one to buy a travel eSIM for.
Card and app payment is the norm
Sweden has moved further from cash than almost anywhere, and many cafés, museums, buses and even some rural services prefer or require card or app payment. A card generally works without data, but ticketing, parking and a good deal of everyday transacting happen in apps that do not.
That makes a working connection more load-bearing in Sweden than in most of Europe. It is a strong argument for installing the eSIM before you fly and confirming it works, rather than planning to sort it out when you arrive and discovering the airport train ticket machine would rather you used the app.
The networks you actually connect to
In Sweden our plans roam onto 3 (5G), Telia (5G), Telenor (5G). That is worth stating plainly because it is the thing that determines your experience: a travel eSIM does not have its own masts, so your signal is whatever those operators have built, and 5G is available where they have deployed it and your handset supports it.
It also means no provider can sell you better coverage in Sweden than the local networks have. Where there is a gap, it is a gap for everyone — local customers included.
Before you buy
Check the handset takes an eSIM and is not carrier-locked. Dial *#06# and look for an EID alongside the IMEI — no EID means no eSIM hardware whatever the model name suggests, and a locked phone will install the profile and then refuse to register. The device compatibility guide lists what works.
Then install before you fly, while you still have reliable Wi-Fi. Setup by brand: iPhone or Android. If it will not connect after you land, this works through the causes in order.
