Africa is the hardest continent to buy travel data for, and the honest reason is that roaming agreements there are patchier and more expensive than anywhere else. These bundles are not cheap. They are considerably cheaper than roaming on a home tariff.

What the bundles cover, and what they do not
Neither bundle covers the whole continent, and anyone claiming otherwise is not being straight with you. One is built around East and West Africa with North African coverage attached; the other reaches further south and includes South Africa. The full country lists are below and they are worth reading carefully, because the gaps are large and specific.
If your trip is one country — a safari in Kenya, a fortnight in Morocco — the country plan is substantially cheaper and covers you properly.
Coverage realities
The major cities are well covered: Cairo, Nairobi, Lagos, Accra, Cape Town, Casablanca. The main highways between them generally are. Game reserves have coverage at the camps and gates and much less between them, often deliberately. The Sahara, the Atlas passes, rural Karoo and the interiors broadly are sparse to empty.
In South Africa specifically, scheduled power cuts have at times affected base stations as well as homes, though networks have invested heavily in backup power. Keep devices charged when power is available.
Regional plan or country plan?
Only worth it for a genuinely multi-country trip. Africa has the widest gap between regional and country pricing of anywhere we sell, so a single-country trip should always buy the country plan.
The arithmetic is simple enough to do yourself: add up what the individual country plans would cost for the countries you are actually visiting, and compare. Our full price list has every country we sell, and local or regional eSIM works through the trade-off in more detail.
Before you buy
Check the handset takes an eSIM and is not carrier-locked — dial *#06# and look for an EID beside the IMEI. No EID means no eSIM hardware, and a locked phone will install the profile then refuse to register. The device compatibility guide lists what works.
Install before you fly, while you still have reliable Wi-Fi: iPhone or Android. If it will not connect after you land, this works through the causes in order.
