Almost every Oceania trip is Australia and New Zealand together — the flight between them is three hours and nobody comes this far for one of them. That makes the two-country bundle the default, with a larger Pacific option for trips that go island-hopping.

Covered where people are, empty where they are not
Australian coverage follows the coast and the population, and the interior is almost entirely uncovered. Once you leave the highway network in the Outback you should assume no signal and plan accordingly — this is a safety matter, not an inconvenience.
New Zealand is well covered along the main state highways and genuinely empty in Fiordland, much of the West Coast and the Southern Alps away from the resort towns. The road to Milford Sound loses signal for long stretches.
The Pacific islands in the larger bundle — Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea — have coverage around the main towns and resorts and very little beyond them.
The Great Walks and the Outback
New Zealand's Department of Conservation hut network and Australia's remote tracks should be treated as entirely without coverage. The backcountry safety systems in both countries deliberately do not depend on mobile phones, and you should not either.
Regional plan or country plan?
The two-country bundle is the right default for an Australia and New Zealand trip. Single-country visitors should buy the country plan.
The arithmetic is simple enough to do yourself: add up what the individual country plans would cost for the countries you are actually visiting, and compare. Our full price list has every country we sell, and local or regional eSIM works through the trade-off in more detail.
Before you buy
Check the handset takes an eSIM and is not carrier-locked — dial *#06# and look for an EID beside the IMEI. No EID means no eSIM hardware, and a locked phone will install the profile then refuse to register. The device compatibility guide lists what works.
Install before you fly, while you still have reliable Wi-Fi: iPhone or Android. If it will not connect after you land, this works through the causes in order.
