How to install a travel eSIM on iPhone before a trip
Installing an eSIM on iPhone is usually quick, but the safest approach is to prepare while you still have good Wi-Fi and enough time to read the instructions for your exact plan. Menu names can vary slightly by iOS version and region.
1. Check that the iPhone supports eSIM
Open Settings and look for cellular or mobile-service options that allow you to add an eSIM. Also confirm the phone is not locked to a carrier that prevents another mobile plan. Apple’s device documentation and your carrier can confirm compatibility if you are unsure.
2. Buy the correct destination package
Choose the country or region you will actually visit and check the plan’s data amount, validity, coverage and activation rules. If you have several stops, compare a regional package with separate local plans.
3. Keep the installation details available
Depending on the eSIM, setup may use a QR code, an activation link, manual details or an app-guided installation flow. Keep the relevant instructions available on another screen if the phone needs to scan a QR code.
4. Add the eSIM in iPhone settings
Follow the iPhone prompt to add the cellular plan. Give the line a clear label such as “Travel” or the destination name. Avoid deleting the eSIM after installation unless support specifically tells you to do so, because some profiles cannot simply be reinstalled.

Confirm the travel eSIM is turned on, selected for mobile data, and using the required roaming setting. Toggle airplane mode, wait briefly, restart the phone and re-check the plan instructions. If it still does not work, contact support with your device model, destination and order/account email.
