A North America plan is for the trip that crosses a border — a road trip into Canada, a week in the States with a few days in Mexico. For a single country it is not the cheapest way to buy, and we would rather say so.

The gaps are bigger than visitors expect
Cities and interstates are well covered. What surprises people is the scale of the empty stretches: parts of Nevada, Utah, Montana and large areas of the national parks can have nothing for an hour of driving. Canada is worse — anything north of the main southern corridor, including much of the Rockies and all of the territories, is sparse to non-existent.
Mexico is well covered around Mexico City, the Riviera Maya and the main resorts, and thin through rural Oaxaca, Chiapas and the Copper Canyon.
Download offline maps before any road trip here. It is the single most useful thing you can do, and it is true regardless of who sells you the data.
Two bundles, one border apart
One covers the United States and Canada. The other adds Mexico. If your trip does not include Mexico, the smaller bundle is cheaper and covers you fully.
Regional plan or country plan?
For a single-country trip the country plan wins. The two-country bundle is priced close enough to a country plan that crossing into Canada once makes it worthwhile.
The arithmetic is simple enough to do yourself: add up what the individual country plans would cost for the countries you are actually visiting, and compare. Our full price list has every country we sell, and local or regional eSIM works through the trade-off in more detail.
Before you buy
Check the handset takes an eSIM and is not carrier-locked — dial *#06# and look for an EID beside the IMEI. No EID means no eSIM hardware, and a locked phone will install the profile then refuse to register. The device compatibility guide lists what works.
Install before you fly, while you still have reliable Wi-Fi: iPhone or Android. If it will not connect after you land, this works through the causes in order.
